My name is Andy: having recently joined Substack I am now not only being “fed” by Sarah’s thoughts there—but apparently also feeding a namesake!
Highly recommended: Where else can you hear an astrophysicist wax philosophic over the movie industry? —(And, my wife & I, having had no TV since early in our marriage, found our screen time, raising the children, WAS watching our family cult classics: ALL VCR & DVD MOVIES. —(The internet now competes heavily, what with the children gone, though.)
Enjoyed both your talks in Austin I’ve seen in person— & I’ll check for more, on YouTube, that were mentioned the last time you spoke ✝️❤️✔️… I just had an experience you may appreciate - of shared movie movie experiences drawing folks together: flying home from a WI trip to see our youngest graduate UW, in April, I was watching (what I consider to be the perfect family movie, “The Incredibles,”) —on the seat back monitor, and the young black woman next to me was watching the (newer) “Parent Trap”, (one of our cult classics that I believe our adult children lifted from our collection when they moved out!) —Anyway: I saw the lady with her earphones on, and I with mine, visibly getting misty over that movie of family reconciliation & “divorce reversal.” So, enjoying my movie equally, I typed on my phone “notes” app, and held it up to her, this: “Hollywood is ABLE to make two movies like these… God just has to make them WANT TO.” —& she nodded.

My longest run without TV was 11 years. I watched the same movies on VHS and DVD over and over.
Anyway, thank you, Andy. :^)
