Your formula of high intelligence + superficial knowledge - meaningful answers from Christian mentors = atheist is exactly right. I have friends who fit this to a T - grew up Catholic, but had intelligent questions that they weren’t even allowed to really ask. Our oldest is like this as well, although I hope with her that we’ve been able to answer her questions more thoroughly than her youth group in high school did... She is studying physics in college and has found science actually increases her faith in a Creator who designed everything.

I need to give this a listen. The rise of Nones is far more of a problem than the growth of atheism.

Ryan dispels the idea that atheists can claim victory with Nones. Some may still hold to a belief in God, but Ryan suggests there’s some politicalization involved. Hard to pin down exactly what the ideological and cultural beliefs of Nones are.

I won’t claim high intelligence, but my forays into the OT have pushed me further from faith. However, if Christ is the light, I would hate to miss out on that because of my own lack of knowledge.

I’m really looking forward to your future articles on the subject, and hope you school me towards the light!

You are appreciated!

A key thing to remember is that just because something is in the Bible, especially in the OT, doesn't mean God is holding it up as an ideal. God tolerated some things for a time, like divorce, even though he hated them. I'll elaborate in my forthcoming article.
