That’s me in the Star Trek science officer uniform kicking the daylights out of a Gorn. The daughter of a friend drew that for me, and I love it.
Yep, I’m a nerd.
I’m an astrophysicist and a huge Star Trek fan, so “nerd” is a given. So is geek, weirdo, and doofus. I also have Asperger’s Syndrome, so that pretty much completes the stereotype of the modern scientist, minus the lab coat.
What may be less stereotypical is that I’m a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and I came to Christian faith largely through my scientific work.
Yep, you read that right.
That confuses a lot of people, because we’ve all been conditioned by popular media and other institutions to think it’s the other way around: science makes you lose your faith. Well, in a sense it did. I lost my faith in the atheistic, materialist worldview, and there was no going back.
I was so excited about my conversion to Christianity halfway through my PhD that I decided to start a science and faith ministry. Over the last 17 years, I’ve been involved in countless lectures, panels, Q&As, podcasts, radio shows, and church meetings, spreading the joyful news that science is not only compatible with Christian faith, it’s highly supportive of it.
Over the years, I’ve gained somewhat of a following on Twitter by writing short posts about science and Christian faith. Many of my followers have expressed interest in reading longer form stuff. I used to have an active blog (here), but work, family, and health concerns conspired to put a temporary end to that.
Now that I’m able to write again, I realized I could get paid to do it on Substack. Sorry, but a girl’s gotta make a living. So, I’m writing here now.
I’ll post articles once a week. More if the mood strikes me. Most of what I write will be available for free. Articles stay visible to everyone for one month, and after that, they go to the archive, available to paid subscribers only. Occasionally, I’ll post paid-subscriber-only material. Comments will also only be for those who pay for subscriptions. That’s partly an incentive for readers to put some skin in the game, but I’m assuming it’ll also improve the overall quality of comments (an experiment!).
Anyway, I’m so glad you’re here reading my blog, Schrödinger’s Poodle. (If you wanna know why it’s called that, see my About page.) Now that you’re here, how about joining me in exploring the relationship between science and Christian faith? All you gotta do is hit that orange button below.
Better yet, you can support me and what I do with a paid subscription. It’s just $5 per month, or $50 for a full year. That’s approximately 17 cents per day, or 1.59 pico-cents per microsecond if you pay for a full year. It’s a real deal, you guys. And you have no idea how much I appreciate your support.
Thank you and looking forward to it.
Hi Sarah. Could you please address the recent findings about time running slower more close to the big bang origin and how that fits in the time theory you already explored related with the 6 criation days when compared with billion years of science?
